An uncertain reality: censored western nations

Is censorship within jounralism used to protect the morals and ethics of individual; to provide reliance and comfort, or is it a means of remaining a capitalist state?

"Britain prides itself, rather complacently, on its resistance to censorship: our political and religious freedoms are sacrosanct. We can say and do what we please without fear of institutional repression or state sanction"

Donald Thomas, Freedoms Frontier

The uncertainty and concern that western nations are becoming states of mass control is unversally questionable. Boundraies and limitations within journalism leaves members of the public with no full understanding of what truth and reality i due to censorhip. There lies a responsablity to the pubilc, the right to freedom and honesty but the management of western nations conspires to overpower states and demoracy is at stake.

"Freedom of speech has been maintained insofar as there is no formal censorship and it remains possible to find strong critism of the authorities in minority media outlets. But all of the national television networks are controlled by the state and slant their coverage accordingly. The intimidation and murder of independent journalists creates a climate of self-censorship that affects the medis as a whole"

Submission to the house of lords, European Union committee

I wonder do those in domination of such powers believe that loosing all censorship could inevitably cause a lapse of individual freedom of voice and lead to dysfunctional non-coherent western nations?
